Hosting Chris Bryant MP, Minister of State for the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology

Aug 29
We were honoured to host Sir Chris Bryant MP, Minister of State for the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology, during his recent visit to Stoke-on-Trent. As the Minister with responsibility for the Government’s Digital Inclusion Strategy, his presence gave us an invaluable opportunity to share experiences from the ground and highlight the challenges and opportunities facing communities today.

Sharing Our Insights on Digital Inclusion

During the visit, we provided feedback on the Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund and discussed broader issues around digital skills, confidence, and access. The conversation allowed us to highlight what we’ve learned from years of delivering programmes across Stoke-on-Trent and beyond - and to demonstrate the ways in which digital inclusion transforms lives.

Showcasing the DigitAll Programme

We were proud to showcase the DigitAll Stoke programme, our flagship initiative designed to equip people with the digital skills they need for life, health, and employment. From supporting job seekers into work, to empowering individuals with the tools to connect with services, family, and community, DigitAll has already had a lasting impact.

Backed by funding from the UK Government and Stoke-on-Trent City Council, DigitAll continues to provide innovative, community-based solutions that help reduce the digital divide.

Demonstrating Social Value

Through the DigitAll Stoke programme, we are proud to have delivered a Social Value Return of £30 for every £1 spent, based on the National TOMs framework. This figure demonstrates more than just financial efficiency - it reflects the real, measurable benefits that digital inclusion creates for individuals, communities, and the wider economy. From improved wellbeing and employability to stronger social connections, the return is tangible and life-changing.

Looking Ahead

At Wavemaker, we remain committed to ensuring that everyone - regardless of age, background, or circumstance - has the skills, confidence, and access they need to thrive in a digital world. Having government support and recognition for digital inclusion at a national level is an encouraging step forward, and we look forward to continuing our work in partnership with local and national stakeholders.

Together, we can create a future where digital is not a barrier, but a bridge to opportunity.
