You’ve seen what we do, but who are we?

Wavemaker Stoke CIC is a not-for-profit organisation that believes in teaching young people and communities from all around the region valuable skills, whilst boosting their digital, and personal, confidence. We are committed to ‘getting people who are furthest from digital technology closer to it’ and this is something that we stand by, in every decision we make, and the workshops and resources that we offer.

First established in 2015, we’ve worked hard to reach out across Stoke-on-Trent and beyond to spark creativity and offer citizens the opportunity to make, play, learn and grow. We aim to make digital skills accessible to everyone, through nurturing confidence and ability in children and young adults of all ages, through to older generations who feel as though they are unable to enjoy the full benefits that technology can offer. While we’re here to get people more invested in technology and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths), Wavemaker is also investing in the future of Stoke-on-Trent, through the wellbeing of its residents and the overall attitude of people in and around the area.

So, how do we do this?

We host workshops either in our headquarters, based in the Mitchell Arts Centre in Hanley, or out and about in the community. Over the past three years, we’ve introduced hundreds of people to coding, programming, design and more, introducing a whole new set of skills, which allows people to express creativity or give them a distinct advantage when it comes to the future job-market, or even when it comes to starting up by themselves.

Wavemaker is more than just a community-focussed organisation trying to make a difference in the area- it’s a movement and a mentality. We want people to be excited by the possibilities of the future and what they can achieve with the right set of skills and attitude, whether that’s in Stoke-on-Trent or further out in Staffordshire or Cheshire. Wavemaker is all about inspiring ambition and drive, encouraging people to ask ‘what if’ and to fulfil their true potential.

Why we do what we do

We understand the skills for the future are more important than ever. Emerging technologies will force change and we aim to ensure everyone has the opportunity to be included in this evolving world.
